Autodesk SketchBook Express for iPad

I recently downloaded a few sketching and drawing apps to have something to do on long trips. So far I’m very impressed by Autodesk SketchBook Express for iPad, a free version of an even more powerful application. This app allows you to created images with simulated paint, charcoal, spray, text, shapes and just about anything else you may want.

So far I’ve only tried a few things, but I really enjoy it. I’ve only dedicated an average of 20 minutes with each sketch I’ve created. I’m sure I will take advantage of more of its capabilities when I have more time.

One of my favorite mediums has been charcoal. I prefer black on a white background like this one below, but i will try colored charcoal as well. I also really enjoy the spray feature and found that you can zoom in to add significant detail that subtlety adds to the overall image.

At this point I have not even tried some of the others I downloaded. SketchBook Express provides the most fun and functionality I’ve seen yet and I recommend it to artists and the occasional doodler.
